Casio predstavio najgušći TFT panel veličine 5 centimetara

TOKYO, September 24, 2008 – Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that it has developed a 2.0-inch a-Si TFT (amorphous silicon thin-film transistor) color liquid crystal display with the industry’s highest resolution* of 546 ppi (pixels per inch).

In recent years, industry has been calling for ever higher resolution in display modules, based on the shift to high image quality that has come with the widespread adoption of the full HD (1920×1080 pixel) standard. The structure for each pixel in a TFT LCD is comprised of an aperture that serves as the light shutter, and multiple light intercepting parts — signal lines, scanning lines, storage capacitors and transistors — which control the movement of the liquid crystals at the aperture. Accordingly, with conventional structures, if dot pitch was made any smaller there would not be enough space for the light aperture. This made it very difficult to realize any higher pixel density.

Casio’s newly developed LCD, however, is based on the company’s original HAST (hyper-amorphous silicon TFT) technology, which permits higher resolution and a higher aperture ratio. Combined with Casio’s optimal design and manufacturing processes, the result is the new 2.0-inch LCD boasting QHD (quarter high-definition) and enhanced resolution while maintaining the required light aperture.

The amount of transmissive light loss (which results from higher pixel density) has been reduced by adopting a new structure based on a wiring design involving multi-layered wiring for transistors and their surrounds. Despite a reduction in dot pitch to a small 15.5 micrometers (as opposed to the 23 micrometers in Casio’s current displays), it has been possible to maintain light aperture. The extreme pixel density that has been achieved with these technologies has allowed Casio to succeed in the development of the industry’s highest resolution display, at 546 ppi.

Thanks to its high compatibility with the full HD standard, the new module will serve as a high quality TFT LCD with excellent display performance. It will be well suited to a variety of applications, including high quality still imagery and exceptionally clear video.
